Prime Minister Narendra Modi Sunday visited historic Bhai Ganga Singh Sabha Gurudwara in Iran’s capital Tehran. Prime Minister is on a two day visit to Iran to ink important agreements with India’s traditional friend in the gulf region.

After his arrival in Tehran, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached the historic Sikh temple. Bhai Ganga Singh Sabha Gurudwara is the only functioning Sikh temple in the country since 1940s.
Prime Minister’s visit to the Sikh temple in a Muslim majority country is considered a significant support to the local Indian community.
Iran has a thriving Sikh community which has never faced any kind of discrimination and has continued to practice their religion with freedom in the country.
The historic Gurudwara in Tehran’s Mesjed Henidyah was founded by Bhai Ganga Singh Sabha in 1941.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit will also focus on New Delhi’s to secure energy assets for a fast growing economy.
The Prime Minister will call on Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and also hold talks with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani to discuss bilateral relations.
Petroleum Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had visited the country in early April to intensify agreement in the energy sector following the end of diplomatic isolation of the country by world powers.
India is trying to develop close strategic and economic relationship with Afghanistan and Iran in a bid to counter increasing Chinese influence in the region.
