The Afghan intelligence agency today confirmed that Taliban leader Mullah Akhtar Mansoor has been killed in an airstrike.
The drone targeted his vehicle in a remote area of south-west Pakistan, near the Afghan border, on Saturday.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said that Mansoor posed an imminent threat to U.S. personnel, Afghan civilians and security forces, and he was directly opposed to peace negotiations.
Manso0r assumed the leadership in July 2015, replacing Taliban founder and leader Mullah Mohammad Omar.
