In Madhya Pradesh, eight SIMI terrorists, who had escaped from Bhopal central jail last night, have been killed in a police encounter in Acharpur area near Bhopal today. State’s Home Minister Bhupendra Singh confirmed the killing of the terrorists.
The names of the terrorists killed are Shiekh Mujeeb, Majid, Khalid, Zakir Badrul, Saleek, Aqueel, Mehboob, Amjad Ramzan. The encounter took place under Gunga police station area, about 10 kilometres from the central jail. According to sources, the encounter took place with the help of local villagers, who first sighted them.
According to eyewitnesses these terrorists hurled stones on villagers and police, later they were gunned down by the police. IG Bhopal range Yogesh Chaudhry said that these terrorist had weapons with them and they got killed in cross-firing.
Eight SIMI terrorists fled from Bhopal Central Jail last night. They killed security guard Ramashankar Yadav during escaping from the B block of the jail. Sources said that they overpowered the guard and opened the lock of the cell. They used bed-sheets as rope for escaping from the jail’s wall.
A reward of five lakh rupees each was announced on arrest of these terrorists. Five officers of Central Bhopal Jail including jail superintendent have been suspended after jail break incident. The action has been taken on Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan directions.
Meanwhile, Centre has sought a report from Madhya Pradesh government over the jail break incident. Sources said the Home Ministry has asked details on the escape of eight SIMI activists from Bhopal central jail last night. It also asked for whether there was any lapse on the part of the jail administration and the steps taken to check such incidents.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said National Investigation Agency (NIA) will probe the incident.
Mr. Chouhan told mediapersons in Bhopal that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has accepted his request for a NIA probe.
Mr. Chouhan said that the state government has taken this incident seriously. The Chief Minister said DIG jail, Jail Superintendent, Deputy Jail Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent have been suspended, while ADG Jail has been line attached at Police Headquarters.
He said that IPS officer Sudhir Shahi will be new ADG Jail. Former DGP of the state Nandan Dubey will investigate the negligence at the jail level. Mr. Chouhan congratulated police for the prompt action and also thanked public for giving location of the terrorists.
