India’s weather department has predicted slight delay in arrival of monsoon this year.
Arrival of South West Monsoon, that hits India’s southern most state of Kerala on June 1, is expected to be delayed by a week.
As per an assessment done by India’s Meteorological Department, the southwest monsoon is likely to set over Kerala on 7th June.
Delay has caused worries among the policy makers as the country is facing acute water shortage and drought situation in several states.
As per a reply by the government in the Lok Sabha, one fourth of the country’s population is hit by acute water shortage.
The Met department has forecast above normal monsoon this year after two consecutive deficient monsoons.
