Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh visited the flood-affected districts in Assam to take stock of the situation.
The floods are said to have affected about 18 lakh people in more than 26 districts. The death toll too continues to rise and now stands at 27.
The Home Minister landed in Guwahati on Saturday afternoon and undertook an aerial survey of the region. He was accompanied by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and MoS in PMO Dr. Jitendra Singh. Home Minister surveyed some of the worst affected districts in the state.
“Over 26 districts have been affected due to flood situation in Assam. NDRF team is working for rescue and relief work,” Singh said in a press conference in Guwahati after reviewing the region.
Singh is accompanied by union Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju and Minister for DoNER (Development of North Eastern Region) Jitendra Singh.
During his day-long tour, the Home Minister held a meeting with CM Sonowal and the state government officers in Guwahati.
“Assam Chief Minister has submitted a memorandum…an inter ministerial team will study it and decide on further action to be taken by Centre,” said the Home Minister.
