Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for a new All India Institute of Medical Sciences during his Gorakhpur visit on Friday. He also initiated the revival of a sick fertiliser plant which had been closed down 26 years ago following an accident.
The fertiliser plant had been lying idle for the last 26 years and the beginning of its revival fulfils a long pending demand of the region. The revived plant’s production capacity will be 4 times higher than earlier.
Once operational, it will meet fertiliser demand of farmers from UP and other states. The urea plant’s revival is considered to be the Modi govt’s biggest investment in Eastern Uttar Pradesh.
Prime Minister also visited Gorakhnath Peeth Temple in the city.
The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for a new AIIMS in Gorakhpur.
It is being made at an estimated cost of Rs. 1,011 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana and is expected to benefit the region’s people tremendously.
The establishment of new AIIMS will serve a dual purpose. It will provide super-specialty health care to the ill while creating a large pool of doctors and health workers.
It will have 750 beds and emergency as well as ayush sections. The new hospital is expected to correct regional imbalances in availability of affordable and reliable tertiary level healthcare.
People of eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar can get treatment in the hospital once it becomes operational.
