India has asked the UK to deport liquor baron Vijay Mallya, whose Kingfisher Airlines has been accused of defaulting bank loans of over Rs 9,400 crore.
MEA has cited issuance of a non bailable warrant against the beleaguered businessman and revocation of his passport as a ground to seek his deportation.
A special court in Mumbai has issued non bailable warrant against Vijay Mallya on a plea filed by the enforcement directorate which is probing an alleged money laundering case involving a loan obtained from IDBI Bank.
Following a request from the ED, MEA has revoked Vijay Mallya’s passport on Sunday.
Despite repeated summons by various Indian authorities, Vijay Mallya has refused to appear before Indian agencies and courts.
MEA has first suspended his diplomatic passport for four weeks to pressurize him to come to India.
However, Mallya has so far refused to return to India.
Government has informed Supreme Court that as per its information Mallya was in the UK.
