In a major step in boosting its capability to neutralise enemy ballistic missile, India Sunday successfully test fired an advanced air defence interceptor missile.
The indigenously developed anti ballistic missile system is capable of destroying incoming hostile ballistic missile.
The missile was test fired from Abdul Kalam Island in Bhadrak district of Odisha on India’s eastern coast.
The advanced version of low altitude supersonic ballistic interceptor missile was fired from the Integrated Test Range off the Odisha coast at a modified version of Prithvi weapon system that mimicked an enemy missile.
The test was the twelfth test of interceptor missiles fired from a warship in the Bay of Bengal. Out of total a dozen tests conducted by India, nine have been successful.
India is one of the few countries in the world that have successfully developed anti-ballistic missile system. United States, Russia and Israel have developed sophisticated anti ballistic missile systems.
