Disappointed by China’s veto at UN last month that effectively blocked India’s bid to get the Jaish-e-Mehmood chief Masood Azhar declared a terrorist, India told China that it couldn’t have double standards while dealing with terrorism.
Union Minister of State for External Affairs General (retd) V K Singh Saturday said, China cannot claim that it doesn’t accept or is against terrorism and at the same time support a leader of a terrorist outfit.
General Singh, who is also former chief of army stafff, was speaking in Kolkata on the sidelines of a seminar by Centre for Eastern and North Eastern Regional Studies.
General (retd) VK Singh said India’s views had been conveyed to China at various levels and in very clear terms.
Last month, India’s external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj had taken up the issue with her Chinese counter part in a meeting in Russia.
India’s displeasure over China blocking India’s bid at the UN to proscribe Masood Azhar was reiterated by India’s defence minister Manohar Parrikar and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval during their visit to the country last month.
Last month China had vetoed India’s bid at the UN to ban the JeM chief, whom India had accused of plotting the Pathankot Airforce Base attack at the start of this year.
The sensational attack had claimed lives of 7 Indian security personnel including a decorated officer of India’s elite anti terror force – NSG.
Responding to a question on India’s objections to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, General (retd) VK Singh said, the Corridor is through an Indian territory and India has raised its concerns and has told China about it.
